Calf and Beef Feeds

Harpers Calf Starter Pellets

A very palatable 18% Crude Protein starter pellet for baby calves. High in energy for lively calves and quality protein for fast efficient growth. Calf Starter Pellets also contain high vitamin levels which help to improve the immune system.

FeedHarvest Top Calf Mix

Probably the most popular coarse mix in the West Country. The diet features a range of quality proteins essential for growth, Rolled Barley, Micronised Maize and Molasses for sustained release energy, Linseed Pellets for coat condition and Locust Beans for palatability. The key to the success of the diet has been the level of intake and rate of digestion, promoting healthy development of the rumen. This diet now includes Bio-Mos®.

Both Top Calf Mix and Calf Starter Pellets should be fed ad lib until 12 weeks of age.

Harpers 18% Rearing Mix/Nuts/Rolls

At 12 weeks of age, calves can be changed onto our 18% Rearing diet. Fed at a rate of 2kgs to 3kgs per head per day, this diet will maximise the growth potential of the calves.

Calves will digest this diet very well, developing their rumen function as they grow. A high specification of minerals ensures the development of all vital functions giving healthy calves with good bloom.

Two year old calving heifers should be fed this diet right through their first summer at grass to ensure target bulling weight is achieved.

Harpers 15% Beef Finisher Mix/Nuts/Rolls

This diet is specifically designed to grow and finish cattle with the right level of conformation and fat cover. Meat quality is a careful balance of flavour, tenderness, colour, healthiness and shelf life. Harpers beef feeds influence these factors to ensure customer satisfaction, looking particularly at:

  • Vitamin E

from a natural source will maintain shelf life of beef through its antioxidant effect on intramuscular fat. This gives a better flavour and colour to the meat on the plate.
  • Polyunsaturated fatty acids

containing healthy omega 3 acids from vegetable protein sources ensure meat rich in flavour and healthiness.
  • Energy and protein balances

from quality raw materials ensures ideal growth rates giving tender, flavoursome beef.

These diets contain quality raw materials such as Soyabean Meal, which ensures high levels of U.D.P. This is essential to maximise high peak yields and growth. Fully mineralised when diluted with your own cereals.

Use the table above to calculate your requirements when mixing protein concentrates with your own cereals.

Harpers 14% Bull Beef Nuts

This diet is designed to be fed ad lib to young, growing and finishing bulls, start feeding at 20 weeks of age to housed Bull Beef Cattle.

The feeding hoppers should be covered to prevent birds entering and cattle must have plentiful supplies of water and straw.

We would recommend using Yeasacc with this diet to improve rumen conditions and increase growth and feed conversion rates.

A group of bulls on a recent trial grew at 1.86kg per day with a food conversion rate of 4.041.

The key to feeding Barley Bulls and in particularly Holsteins/Friesians is keeping flesh on their backs all the time. This diet fed ab lib will ensure that they are properly finished when they reach their target weight.
